Growing up, Dr. Shamarah Hutchins used sports as an outlet. Basketball taught her determination, dedication, discipline and fight. In high school, Dr. Hutchins was a student athlete that found success academically and athletically. As a high school student athlete at Cleveland Heights in Cleveland Heights
Ohio. She went on to graduate and received a full athletic scholarship to Wilberforce University. While at Wilberforce University, she excelled academically and athletically once again.
She graduated magna cum laude with a 3.8 GPA in Biology. Her basketball career accolades consist of, AMC All Freshman Team, AMC All Conference 2nd Team, joining the one-thousand point club and being named an NAIA All American. The life and journey of a student athlete is what led her to become a
psychologist.
Dr. Hutchins is an athlete, a coach and a psychologist who now spends her time helping athletes understand having mental health problems can be worked through and managed all while succeeding in their sport of choice.
Athletes who have good grades are less likely to get into trouble and more likely to stay focused on their academics.
In order to have a successful sports performance, it is important to have a good nutritional foundation.
Mental health is an important part of any athlete's life. It is the difference between a good performance and a great one.
Basketball is a sport that provides opportunities for mentorship. Everyone involved can mentor others.
